12 Best Stock Photo Sites in 2017 (and they're totally free!)

Top 12 Stock Photo Sites in 2017 (and they're totally free!)

It's a scientific fact that we're more likely to remember content with images and videos. I think that beautiful photos give the post that final touch, so I can't stress enough how important the quality of blog photos is. Not all of us have the opportunity to take breathtaking photos for our blogs, so that's exactly when stock photo sites come in handy. Many people prefer taking their own photos, which is actually really great, but as someone who doesn't have the time to take my own photos, I feel like there's nothing wrong with using stock photos as long as you don't claim those photos as your own. Most stock photos do not require attribution, but it's highly recommended to always check out their FAQ and License pages. Without further ado, let me introduce you to some really great stock photo sites (actually, there are 12 of them!).

Pixabay is a vibrant community of creatives, sharing royalty free images and videos. All contents are released under the Pixabay License, which makes them safe to use without asking for permission from or giving credit to the artist. So, yes, you may copy, modify, share, and use Pixabay images and videos, even for commercial purposes. You do not need to ask permission or provide credit to the artist or Pixabay, although it is appreciated when possible.

Pexels helps designers, bloggers and everyone who is looking for an image to find great photos that you can use everywhere for free. All photos on Pexels are licensed under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. This means you can use them for free for any personal and commercial purpose. Attribution is not required. This is my favorite one because they offer such a wide variety of photos.

All photos published on Unsplash can be used for free. You can use them for commercial and non-commercial purposes. You do not need to ask permission from or provide credit to the photographers or Unsplash, although it is appreciated as it provides exposure to their work and encourages them to continue sharing. A credit can be as simple as adding their name with a link to their profile or photo.

Barn Images

You are allowed to use any of the free images published in Barn Images collections for commercial and non-commercial purposes. However, the image copyright is still the property of its author. You cannot resell their photographs as prints, as photo stock (whether free or paid) or redistribute them anywhere else.

You can use the photos for both personal and commercial use. The only thing that isn’t allowed is photo redistribution — this means selling, reselling or resharing the images to download or use them in library of images in B2C or B2B apps. Crediting is not necessary, but if you want, you can use "Photo by picjumbo.com" with link to picjumbo.com or "Photo by Viktor Hanacek" with link to picjumbo.com.

Free high-resolution pictures you can use on your personal and commercial projects. New awesome pictures added weekly! All pictures are photographed by Ryan McGuire and free of copyright restrictions. So, he doesn't require any attribution, but it is always appreciated!

Creative Market

Weekly Free Goods are 6 great products offered for free, selected by their Design team each week to showcase the great designs from various shops on their site. They can range from fonts to graphics to WordPress themes. There are 6 new products every week, so make sure you get them before they expire! Their free goods are only free from Monday at midnight until Sunday night at 11:59 CT (UTC-6). After that, they'll offer 6 different goods for free. There are usually different fonts, icons, textures, so I totally recommend to check them out!

Life of Pix

Free high-resolution photos, no copyrights restrictions. Images for personal and commercial use. New photographies added weekly! All images are donated to the public domain. Hand-made with love by Leeroy Advertising Agency in Montreal & its network of photographers.

They offer free stock photos in two categories: Public Domain and Attribution Required. The images you find with the Public Domain license can be used for any reason whatsoever, while the Attribution Required pictures require you to give credit to the creator. They update daily.

All photos on their website are licensed under the Creative Commons license CC0, which means that you are free to use the images without any costs. You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking for permission. Although you’re more than welcome to let them know if you use images for a website, illustration or whatever, it’s inspiring to see the results.

You can use SplitShire free stock photos for everything - your website or apps, social media, book covers, music artwork, personal & commercial works. SplitShire images can be included in your final product to sell such as templates, photoshop files, video projects, graphic templates, mock-ups etc. You can’t sell the photo as it is. The standalone version is given to you for free. No third-party stock websites. The use of SplitShire free photos is not allowed in projects that have inappropriate content.

Foter.com allows you to search, manage and add free stock photos to blogs, forums, websites and other online media. They host over 220 million free Creative Commons images from many online sources. The process of searching for photos and inserting them into blog posts or articles is designed to be very fast and convenient. Just search for images by keywords and grab the embed code to insert them into your blog. The embed code contains all necessary CC attribution that is mandatory to include, so you don't need to contribute authors manually.

Do you use stock photos or do you prefer taking your own photos?
