One Tip Every Blogger Should Know

One Tip Every Blogger Should Know

I think we can all agree that commenting on other bloggers' posts is one of the most fun things to do. I, personally, just love making compliments and praising other people for their success and to be honest, I believe that as bloggers we should support each other more often because we're one big family after all.

So, I've seen a lot of people comment on other people's posts and they have always embedded a clickable link to their blog. In my opinion, this is a great way to attract new readers, but if you leave just your blog name or a link that needs to be copied instead of clicked, chances are pretty high that they won't visit your blog.

So, if you want to add a clickable link at the end of your comment, you should use the following code:

<a href="http://www.yourblogname.com/">Write your text here</a>

For example, if I wanna leave a comment with a clickable link to my blog under someone's post, I use the following code:

<a href="http://www.lauraconteur.com/">Lauraconteur ♥</a>

And it's supposed to look like this:

This is just a simple tip, but I hope it helped at least some of you.

10 Tips That Every University Student Should Know

10 Tips That Every University Student Should Know

I will start university this September and it will be my first university experience ever, which is why I'm really excited to share today's post with you. To be honest, I've read quite many articles and blog posts on how to survive the first year of university and during my research I've seen some quite simple yet useful tips I'd love to share with you.

Take quality notes

This means no mindless writing. If you feel like something is important, write it down. If you feel like something is not important, don't write it down. Just copying the sentences from the slideshows is never a good idea - try to put everything in your own words and you'll remember the topic much better.

Don't be afraid to ask questions

I feel like this is something a lot of people (including myself) are quite afraid of. Asking questions doesn't mean you're stupid. It means you're interested in the topic that's being covered at that moment. It's okay not to understand and know everything. Besides, why would you even need to go to school if you already knew everything?

Study in an appropriate environment

Avoid studying in bed or on a couch because you may be tempted to take a nap. Sit at a desk if possible. I personally never listen to music during studying because I feel like it's too distracting, but relaxing music may help some of you to focus more on your work.

Make a study schedule

Making a schedule will keep you on track and it's also really useful if you want to avoid procrastination. There are tons of scheduling apps, but I prefer the old school method which simply means using pen and paper. Writing down your tasks is necessary especially if you're short on time.

Eat well & exercise

Veggies are really your best friends. But eating healthy doesn't mean that your diet should consist of vegetables only. Whole grain foods, fruits and berries, nuts and seeds, legumes and eggs - the number of choices is endless. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day. Don't forget to keep your body in a good shape. Exercising improves your blood flow, it's good for your health and it will help to get rid of stress. Also, sleeping is really important. Make sure you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

Reward yourself

Don't forget to reward yourself every now and then. After every study session, go outside, get a cup of coffee, eat a piece of cake, go shopping or watch your favorite TV show. Do whatever makes you happy because you deserve it. If you're feeling a little bit uninspired, here are listed 155 good ways of rewarding yourself.

Remove all distractions

Turn off your mobile phone and tablet. No chats with friends, no checking Snapchat or Instagram. Turn off your e-mail alerts too. It's better to focus on studying only because every time you try multitasking, your brain starts to switch from one thing to another and therefore the studying process is not as effective as it should be.

Break big projects into steps

Breaking down a big assignment into small assignments will make the task a lot more doable and manageable. Also, don't forget to take small breaks between the assignments.

Take breaks

Our brain absorbs information from the first and last 15 minutes of studying. This means that everything in between will more likely be forgotten. Set a timer for 30 minutes and study non-stop for that time. When the timer goes off, take a small break. Our brains really need time to refresh in order to work to its fullest potential.

Make study cards

After every lecture try to create your own flashcards so that you could later review the topics you need to learn and know. There are also quite many study apps (such as Coursera, Brainscape, Quizlet and Todolist) that will help you along with the study process.

What advice would you give to someone who's starting university?

The Liebster Award | Lauraconteur

The Liebster Award

The Liebster Award was created to recognize and discover new (small) blogs and it's given by bloggers to bloggers. I was nominated from Amy by All about Amy. I totally recommend you to check her blog out! Thank you so much for nominating me, Amy! So, Amy asked me 11 questions I'm going to answer in this post and at the end of this post, I'm going to nominate a few bloggers who have to do the same thing. Without further ado, let's get started!

Why did you start blogging?

I used to have a blog back in 2014 and it was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had so far. I got such a nice feedback and I was doing pretty well, but for some reason, I quit. But now I’m back, yay! Writing and helping other people are two of my greatest passions, so that’s why I decided to start blogging - in hopes that it may help at least one of you. Also, for me, my blog is my (online) creative outlet where I share everything that has been helpful for me and that I’m interested in and I'm more than happy to share it all with you.

What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

The people! I’ve never seen anything as supportive as our blogging community. You know, it makes me incredibly happy every time someone comments or likes my stuff. I’m so thankful to all of you for everything you’ve done for me. The other thing I like about blogging is that it lets me express my creativity and also improve my language skills (since I'm not a native English speaker).

What’s your favourite TV show?

I can’t choose only one. Right now I don’t have enough time to watch TV shows, but I’m hoping to get back on track in September. If I had to name some of my favorites, I’d say “Supergirl”, “The Flash”, “Silicon Valley”, “Black Mirror” and “Mr. Robot”. Most of them are tech-related, so if you're into IT/technology, I totally recommend you to check the last three ones out.

What’s your favourite food?

Oh no! Food is my number one weakness. I love creamy pastas. Also, junk food is something that drives me crazy every time. And cakes... and chocolate... I'm also a coffee addict. Ahhh, please give me everything! Although I have to mention that there are a few things I'd rather not eat - fish, most meats, turnip and olives.

What was the last book you read?

I'm quite ashamed to admit that I haven't read a book in ages. I guess the last one I read was probably some Harry Potter book since I'm a huge Potterhead.

What was the last film you saw in the cinema? And what did you think of it?

The last film I saw in the cinema was probably “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”. I think I saw it in May or something, so I can’t remember the plot very well, but I have always loved all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, so that one was no different. I've heard some people say that the movie is boring and too lame, but in my opinion, you can never go wrong with a movie that Johnny Depp stars in. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” was 9/10 in my opinion.

If you could go on holiday anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Ahh, the choices are endless. I’d love to go somewhere warm, somewhere near the beach. I could really use a beach vacation right now. Hawaii and Tenerife are the places I’d love to visit the most I guess.

If you could go back in time and give yourself some advice, what would it be?

I’d tell myself to stress less. Care less about what other people think about you. Start working on your dreams. Worry less about your appearance and focus more on your inner side. Family and friends are so important, never forget that!

If you could have any an animal in the world as your pet, what would it be?

I have the cutest bunny ever and I wouldn’t want it any other way. More rabbits would be cool, haha! Bunnies are just the sweetest creatures alive. I used to have a dream that one day if I had enough money I’d buy a farm and then I’d gather all the bunnies from our local pet stores and had them live together happily on that farm (no more cages, yay!). I’m such a huge bunny lover!

If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you bought?

Some food. Then I'd have a picnic with my family and later I'd plan how to spend the money I've won.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I usually hang out with my friends/family, plan my blog content or surf around the Internet. I love learning new things and what could be a better way to do that than by using the power of the Internet. Just chilling and relaxing sounds like a great idea of spending my free time too!

I'm going to nominate:
Tasha from Tasha Hall
Tanya from ThingsToDoWithKids
Meg from Food and Fancies
Courtney from Paperback Beaches
Kaelin from Living in Saturn

And my questions to you are the following:
  1. Describe yourself in 3 words!
  2. What would your dream job be and why?
  3. If you could have any superpower in the world, what would it be?
  4. How did you come up with your blog name? Is there any meaning behind it?
  5. What do you regret the most in your life?
  6. What are you really good at?
  7. If you could have only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  8. Why do you blog?
  9. Who/what inspires you?
  10. What makes you laugh?
  11. What do you think makes a person beautiful?
